Galley / Pantry

As galleys and pantries on a marine vessel are classified as hygienic areas, the lighting should be specified according to USPH (United States Public Health).

Easy to clean, low maintenance

To withstand the intensive cleaning, lighting in a galley kitchen or pantry on a ship must have a high ingress protection (IP) rating and should be made from chemical-resistant materials. High temperatures are often present in cooking areas. In addition to these requirements, the light fittings must be easy to install, maintenance-free and should provide sufficient illumination with an appropriate colour rendering (CRI).

Important factors to consider when selecting lighting solutions for galleys and pantries:

  • Easy to clean.
  • Mechanically solid and robust.
  • No maintenance and reduced power consumption (high energy efficiency).
  • No or minimum glare.
  • Low ceiling height.
