Integrated emergency lighting solutions

An integrated emergency lighting solution is a part of a general lighting fixture that is equipped with an emergency lighting functionality. This can be achieved by adding an additional emergency kit with a battery inside to the general lighting luminaire (or somewhere nearby), or by connecting it to the central power supply that is used during an emergency. Integrating emergency lights into the general lighting is often the only way to meet the aesthetic demands in a modern building.

There are several possible ways to prepare an integrated emergency luminaire, but from a light source perspective, two of them are the most popular. Using the same light source as for the general lighting produces the same light distribution curve, whereas using an additional light source for emergency lighting creates greater possibilities for shaping the light distribution with additional optics, but often leads to a lower light output ratio.

When we are using the same light source for emergency mode operation, it’s important to remember that the light distribution curve will be the same as for the general lighting mode. However, emergency lighting parameters should be checked and confirmed by light calculations.
