Grupa Projektowa A.T.I., Professor Renato Rizzi, architect

The Shakespeare Theatre was established in the historic 17th-century building of the Fencing School. Its architectural form draws inspiration from the Fortune Theatre in London. Notably, it was the first public theatre in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

The Main Hall of the theatre is a reconstruction of the former Gdańsk Elizabethan playhouse. The design was conceived with remarkable spatial versatility in mind. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the space can transform to accommodate a range of stage configurations – including the classical Italian stage, Elizabethan stage, arena stage, and more. Consequently, the lighting throughout the venue had to ensure an exceptionally high level of uniformity.
