This project was a Fastrack programme for a 25 bed Acute ward under the emergency Covid measure for the Mater Hospital.

The unit was fully completed within 6 months from start to finish. It is the first HCL installation in a major hospital in the ROI. The unit  has been fitted with HCL lighting (Human Centric Lighting). This is a lighting solution that mimics daylight in intensity and colour temperature and that can affect us humans, biologically. HCL can have positive effects on mood, sleep, well-being and performance. A human-centric lighting solution can compensate for insufficient daylight exposure and help stabilise the residents’ circadian rhythm. The effects on patients or residents are (can be) better sleep at night and shorter recovery times. Dimmed warmed light before sleep can help patient’s melatonin production, promoting sleep onset.
