Northern Europe's largest weather-protected ice surface

Tingvalla Ice Stadium is located in Karlstad and, with its over 12,000 square meters, is one of the largest artificially frozen ice surfaces in Europe. The stadium was built in 1967 and was named Sweden’s Bandy Arena of the Year for the 1999/2000 season.

EVEN AS AN OUTDOOR ARENA, the ice stadium was highly appreciated by both the general public and elite athletes. Around 7,500 ice skating enthusiasts from Karlstad have visited public skating sessions this winter. Due to regulations related to the arena still being a construction site, attendance has been limited to 150 people per session—and it has been fully booked every time.

About 50 teams from Karlstad’s four sports clubs that offer bandy have Tingvalla Ice Stadium as their home arena, including IF Boltic’s men's team.

Lighting
Using luminaires with state-of-the-art LED technology is another smart way to save energy, reduce electricity costs, and minimize maintenance. The chosen solution was the i81 luminaire equipped with a wireless lighting control system and motion sensors. Additionally, there was a request for a mounting bracket for the i81 that would fit directly onto the cable trays used—so a custom bracket was developed for this purpose.

Opening in Autumn 2022
Once completed, the ice stadium will house three ice surfaces—a full-size bandy field and two ice hockey rinks. It will accommodate all types of ice sports, including bandy, figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, and public skating sessions. The new Tingvalla Ice Stadium is scheduled to open in autumn 2022.
