Seddon is a family of specialist companies in land, housing, construction, refurbishment, retrofit, maintenance and decarbonisation services.

The Brief

Seddon moved into their Bolton office twenty years ago, but the way they operate today is vastly different. With ambitious sustainability targets and a goal of reaching net zero by 2050, the company sought to decarbonise its operations and improve energy efficiency. At the same time, they aimed to refresh the office environment — both in appearance and functionality. The updated premises were designed to offer a variety of spaces, including collaboration areas, meeting rooms, and breakout zones.

The Solution

Glamox supplied a wide range of lighting products to support the refurbishment of Seddon’s office, providing solutions tailored to each application. The luminaires included the C35 — a 600 x 600 mm recessed, slim-profile light fitting ideal for open office areas — and the FX65 FLOW, an elegant pendant luminaire designed for creating circular and curved lighting structures.

To support Seddon's sustainability goals, we also provided advanced lighting controls. Central to the refurbishment was the integration of luminaires with wireless connectivity, managed via the Glamox Wireless Radio lighting control system. This system not only enables full lighting control but also delivers valuable data — including energy consumption and emergency lighting status — through an online portal.

The Result

The wireless element of the Glamox lighting system significantly reduced the need for invasive modifications to existing ceilings and walls. By minimising cabling infrastructure, the solution not only streamlined installation but also enhanced overall sustainability compared to conventional hard-wired lighting systems.

Seddon now have a highly energy efficient lighting system that will enable real energy savings and help the company reach their sustainability targets.

Seddon’s Electrical Supervisor was provided with training on the wireless lighting control system, which will enable the company to control the lighting in their own working environment. The lighting controls will also generate comprehensive data, enabling ongoing optimisation of the system to achieve greater energy savings. By monitoring energy consumption in specific areas through heat mapping, targeted adjustments can be made more effectively.

Talking about Seddon’s complete office refurbishment, owner and Director, Nicola Hodkinson, said “Everything we do is about decarbonization. Its really important we step in line with that to make our buildings as energy efficient, as close to NET zero as we can possibly get it. This building is a really good showcase for that.”
