T5 and T8 light sources will be phased out from the market starting August 25, 2023.

The RoHS directive brings a major change to the lighting industry.

What is RoHS?

The RoHS directive is an EU initiative aimed at limiting the use of substances that are harmful to the environment and public health. As a result of the directive, light sources with high mercury content are being banned from the lighting industry. The ban on compact fluorescent lamps came into effect in February 2023, and T5 and T8 light sources will be removed from the market starting August 25, 2023. This change will affect all spaces and buildings currently lit with fluorescent lamps, and the need for LED lighting upgrades will increase as the old fluorescent tubes and lamps disappear from distributors' inventories.

How to easily upgrade your lighting to LED?

Glamox offers a range of retrofit luminaires that make it easy to find suitable LED replacements for fluorescent lamps:

  • CREP-R is designed to replace old T5/T8 luminaires. Its wide frame covers any irregularities around the old installation hole. It is suitable for cassette, T-grid, and fixed ceilings.

  • Glamox D50-R can be installed in the most common suspended ceiling types. Its slim body, only 91 mm high, allows installation even when ceiling space is limited. The two sizes, 175 mm and 210 mm, match the standard cut-out sizes of old compact fluorescent lamp luminaires, so D50-R can replace them without modification. D50-R is also a direct replacement for luminaires in the Glamox D20-R product family.

  • Glamox C77 is a high-quality yet affordable luminaire family. It is available in recessed, surface-mounted, and suspended versions, in various sizes. C77 luminaires are easy to install and, thanks to their special reflector design, offer glare-free, pleasant lighting for all types of spaces.

  • With a LED Kit, you can easily and quickly upgrade your existing luminaire technology to LED. Glamox LED Kits are available for the following Glamox luminaires: MIR, MIL, MIX, MAX, GPV2, A10-S, A20, Alfa, and Alfa Oval.

Lighting control systems for convenience and energy savings

When retrofitting lighting, we also recommend updating the lighting control system. Lighting controls help achieve significant energy savings and ensure light is delivered exactly where and when it’s needed. Glamox offers a wide selection of lighting control systems that are easy to design, install, and use for all needs.

  • Glamox Wireless Radio, especially suitable for renovation projects, operates reliably at 868 MHz and requires no cabling. It is easy to install and use. The system comes with no licensing fees, and we offer free training for its use.

  • Glamox Ethernet2Dali is a versatile lighting control system for nearly any application. It uses the DALI2 standard and can manage lighting centrally for a single floor or an entire building. The system intelligence lies in the Vertex router, and its programming is very simple via a standard web browser. There are no licensing fees, and we offer free training for this system as well.
