The Brief
Situated on a 21.5-acre site, the facility provides a significant boost to the UK film industry’s soundstage capacity with 12 purpose-built soundstages ranging from 16,000 to 32,000 square feet. The campus also includes extensive support facilities, including office and ancillary spaces.
To meet the complex demands of such a large-scale facility, there was a requirement for a highly controllable and energy-efficient lighting solution capable of delivering the necessary illumination levels in office and support areas, while minimising the number of fittings used. In addition, the luminaires installed in the studio spaces needed to withstand elevated ambient temperatures, with emergency variants designed to operate reliably at up to 40 °C.
The Solution
A DALI hard-wired lighting control system was selected for its advanced feature set and scalability, ensuring future-proof performance and flexibility. In office and support areas, SLIMLUX 108 luminaires were installed to deliver optimal lux levels, uniform light distribution, and enhanced efficiency—achieving design targets with fewer fittings.
For the main studio spaces, the Cyberia high-bay industrial luminaire was chosen. Its robust design ensures consistent, high-output lighting under demanding thermal conditions, operating effectively in environments ranging from -40 °C to +60 °C.
In utility and storage areas, the i40 luminaire provided an energy-efficient, durable solution. For external and under-canopy environments subject to moisture and impact, the CORRIST Endurance—with its IK10 impact rating and IP67 ingress protection—was ideally suited.
The Result
More than 1,600 luminaires were supplied and installed across the Eastbrook Studios campus. The integrated DALI lighting control system enables comprehensive monitoring and control, supporting energy efficiency and reducing ongoing operational costs. Safety is enhanced through the deployment of Cyberia emergency luminaires, specifically engineered to protect internal batteries from extreme heat, ensuring reliable performance in critical situations.
