Bondberget Nursing Home
The nursing home consists of five departments with apartments/resident rooms, as well as Ekhagen's guest home, which provides palliative care. This is a care facility that works with a health-promoting approach—focusing on the strengths, opportunities, and resources of each individual. What a person can and wants to do themselves, they should also be allowed to do. The goal is to ensure that each resident has a meaningful day, can live a dignified life, and experience well-being. All care is tailored to the resident’s needs, wishes, and circumstances.
Lighting Based on Individual Needs
With this philosophy at its core, it was only natural to consider individual needs when installing a new lighting solution. One way of doing this was to mimic the natural daylight cycle and thus promote a healthy circadian rhythm among residents. A Human Centric Lighting (HCL) system was therefore installed in all shared areas. Pre-programmed lighting cycles were set up to replicate natural outdoor light indoors. Fixtures used for this included A51, C90-S, C95-SC & C95-PC, D70-R, and A20.
Lighting Setup
-
The decorative recessed A51-R was installed in corridors
-
The ceiling-mounted C90-S was placed in dining rooms
-
The C95-PC pendant was used to illuminate all communal areas
-
Each bed is also equipped with Carelite, a user-friendly bedside reading light with a built-in night light—just bright enough for a nurse to check on the patient at night
Manual Override and Staff Training
Additionally, a manual override function was integrated into the HCL system to allow staff to temporarily take control when more light is needed—such as during medical transport. Easy-to-use pushbutton panels were installed in strategic locations so staff could activate manual control. After a pre-set number of minutes, the system automatically returned to the programmed lighting cycles. Before commissioning, all staff at the facility were trained in the principles of Human Centric Lighting and how to operate the lighting system.
Resident Rooms
HCL was not installed in individual resident rooms. Instead, DALI luminaires were used, which can be individually adjusted using a wall dimmer. The fixtures used were C95-S Circle, a series of circular, surface-mounted luminaires with a minimalist design and fully illuminated surfaces. In the bathrooms, Glamox A40 was installed—a bathroom luminaire offering good light distribution and functional design.
Glamox's Role
This project, which began in 2018, saw Glamox involved from start to finish—taking full responsibility from initial planning and design to final training, and every step in between.
